Sample Submissions to the Molecular Biology Core
Submitting samples to us is easy. On this page, you will find the information you need to know how to submit your samples. We also ask you to provide key information to give you fast results.
Service Request Guide
1. Register an Account Register an iLab account for ALL SERVICES.
Please note that MBCF does not administrate the iLab system
If you have questions or problems registering an account please contact iLab directly: support@ilabsolutions.com
2. Place an electronic request in iLab.
The form is a dynamic document that can be easily edited, so don’t be afraid to write in a question and submit.
IMPORTANT: Look below for important information to fill out on the form. There is no such thing as too much information to provide to us!
Provide Payment Information Internal investigators:
Dana-Farber investigators: please provide a project number.
BWH investigators: receive internal rates, but still must provide a PO.
External investigators: A valid purchase order (PO) must be provided before we can begin work. To facilitate this process, we can generate an official quotation once you have submitted an iLab request.
IMPORTANT: POs should be made out as follows:
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
General Accounting BP425
450 Brookline Avenue
Boston, MA 02215-5450
Note to Partners, Harvard & Tufts researchers: Partners Health Care (includes MGH, BWH, McLean, Spaulding, etc): choose vendor 0000008573. Harvard (includes HMS, Dental, Wyss, HSPH, etc): choose vendor site: 01_PRIMARY. Tufts University choose Supplier 0000000655

iLab Submission Guide
Basic Process Overview
-
Submit iLab request.
-
Receive quotation from MBCF (not automated)*.
-
Use the quotation to generate PO through your purchasing department.
-
Update iLab request with valid PO (or email it to us).
-
MBCF will begin processing request ASAP.
*Internal customers use project number, do not need a PO
Important Information to include in iLab
As a small lab, multiple people process our samples received from quality control to sequencing. To ensure a smooth experience at MBCF, please be detailed when filling out information in iLab's system. This allows everyone to easily find the necessary information
Important information to include:
-
Sample Names
-
Sequencing read lengths (if unsure email to help)
-
Indexes for sequencing (if applicable)
How To Submit Samples
1. The “Fish Room”
Located near the 3rd-floor elevator lobby of the Smith building, SM360.
Samples may be dropped off in the fridge or RNA freezer (-80) and our courier will deliver them to us. Pick-ups are twice a day at 7am and 12pm. For access call security and they can remotely buzz open the door. Their phone number is 617-632-3131
DNA: place samples in racks in top half of left-hand fridge
RNA: -80C freezer: take an empty blue cooler from the bottom half of the freezer, place samples in blue cooler, place blue cooler in the top half of freezer to await pick up.

- Include iLab Order ID
- Make sure samples are sealed
- At least 10 µL unless QC only

DNA & NGS Library Submission (4C)
DNA Sequencing Libaries: Submit at least 10nM in at least 10 µL volume, (15 -20 µL preferred, more if suspected low concentrations of < 0.5 ng/µL). Submit in securely sealed tubes or plate.
DNA QC: Submit at least 5µL. Submit in securely sealed tubes or plate.

(extraction services not provided by MBCF)

RNA QC Only:
Submit at least 5µL sample.Keep at -80, submit in securely sealed tubes.
mRNAseq (polyA enrichment):
Purified Total RNA: 500ng (more is fine, less can be OK too)
